As we move towards Christmas we celebrate with carols sung both in church and outside, and on Christmas Eve we hold crib services at all three churches (two crib services at St George’s!) and then Midnight Mass beginning at 11.30pm in St George’s and St John’s.
We then celebrate the wonderful news of the incarnation of God on Christmas morning in all three churches.

Carols
Sunday, December 8th, 6pm at St John’s. Sunday, December 15th, 6pm at St George’s. Friday, December 20th, 6pm at Hale Chapels (cemetery, Alma Lane), followed by refreshments at St Mark’s. Monday, December 23rd, 6pm around the tree at St George’s.
Crib Services
All Tuesday, December 24th. Come dressed as your favourite Nativity character.
3pm: St John’s. 3pm: St George’s especially for toddlers. 5pm: St Mark’s. 5.30pm: St George’s.
Midnight Mass
Tuesday, December 24th, 11.30pm, at St John’s and St George’s.
Christmas morning
9.30am, St John’s. 10am, St George’s. 11am, St Mark’s.
The Badshot Lea Christmas lights will be switched on at a celebration at St George’s Church on Monday, November 18th, starting at 5.30pm. There will be singing, fireworks, hot chocolate, mulled wine, mince pies and the Christmas lights on the school opposite the church will be switched on. Come and join us!
If you have lost a close friend or family member and would like an opportunity to remember them and light a candle for them, we are holding ‘All Souls’ services’ this weekend. These simple services of music, prayer and reflection will take place as follows:
St John’s, Hale (near the Six Bells roundabout) on Saturday, November 2 at 4pm; St Mark’s, Upper Hale (next to Tesco Express) on Sunday, November 3 at 11am; and St George’s, Badshot Lea (opposite the school) on Sunday, November 3 at 5.30pm.
During the services you will have the opportunity to light a candle in memory of the person or people you have lost.

Celebrate harvest with us in all three churches on September 22nd. At St John’s the service is at 9.30am, St George’s 10am and St Mark’s 11am.
St Mark’s we will include our normal Apple Day celebrations in the service and eat apple pie and other apple snacks after the service.
We are collecting tins and packets for Farnham Foodbank. The Foodbank especially wants tinned soup, instant mash, tinned rice pudding and custard, tinned potatoes, UHT juice.
Scarecrow drive, Saturday, September 21st, St George’s Church, 5.30-8pm
It’s autumn , but while you might imagine that scarecrows can have a rest once the harvest is in, not so. Not only do they have to look after the newly planted winter wheat and other crops which are grown at this time of year, they may be called on to take part in a scarecrow drive or two?
A scarecrow drive? What’s that? It’s a seasonal beetle drive, where, instead of rolling a dice to collect parts of a beetle, you roll one to collect parts of a scarecrow. And we are holding one at St George’s on Saturday, September 21st from 5.30-8pm.
It’s a sociable evening suitable for all ages, and we’re throwing in a supper too for those who would like one. You need to pre-order and pay for it and the costs are: fish £10; chicken £9; sausage £6, veggie burger £7; all with chips. You need to let Kris Lawrence know by September 18th if you want to order the food. Click here to tell her. If you want to bring your own food, please do, but please still let Kris know if you are coming so that we know numbers.

We’re holding a scarecrow drive on Saturday, September 21st at St George’s, beginning at 5.30pm.
A what? Well, you’ve probably heard of a beetle drive, or even a snowman drive as we’ve held a few of those over the years. If not, or you need a reminder, at a beetle drive players sit round a table and compete to draw a complete beetle by rolling dice. Roll six to draw a body (which must be drawn first), five to add the head, three or four to add legs, two for antennae and one for a nose. In this case we will be rolling the dice to create a scarecrow.
The first player to complete their beetle yells ‘Beetle!’ (or ‘Scarecrow!’) and wins the round, earning points. The game typically includes multiple rounds, with players moving to different tables after each round, and the player with the most points at the end of the evening is crowed the winner.
The scarecrow drive will take place from 5.30pm to 8pm to enable younger children to take part. Tickets are £5 adults, £2.50 children. Bring your own food and drinks, or pre-order and pay for fish £10; chicken £9; sausage £6, veggie burger £7; all with chips. Please pre-book so we know numbers. Each year, the dance company, which is based in Farnham Maltings, brings Doorstep Duets to new audiences by dancing outside buildings where there are groups to come and watch. This year, the dancers are presenting Hum in the car park at St George’s while Connections, a group for over-50s is meeting.
Just as the actions of the hummingbird, the smallest bird in the world, are essential to life in the towering rainforest, in Hum one small gesture of kindness to a stranger ripples out to create a community for those who need it most.
Hum has been created by choreographer and movement director Anjali Mehra, with original music by Luke Brady.

Farnham Maltings is bringing its Maltings at… series of events for families to St Mark’s and St George’s this summer holidays.
Maltings at… is a series of free workshops and performances suitable for families and they are taking place at St Mark’s on Monday mornings and St George’s on Wednesdays throughout August.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
