Remembrance Day
Today is the 11th November, Remembrance Day, the day we commemorate those members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty. It is observed on November 11th as this was the day on which hostilities ended in the First World War in 1918.
On Remembrance Sunday (this year November 8th), here in the Parish of Badshot Lea and Hale we held Acts of Remembrance at the three War Memorials – Badshot Lea, Weybourne and Hale – when the names of the dead of the villages were read out. We have also recorded online versions of these ceremonies and you can find them here:
The online Remembrance Sunday services are also here:
https://badshotleaandhale.org/2020/11/08/remembrance-services-8th-november/
and you can find our annual Farnham Festival of Remembrance online here:
There is also a garden of poppies and crosses in St John’s churchyard.
Prayers for Remembrance Day
For those who have died
Almighty and eternal God,
from whose love in Christ we cannot be parted,
either by death or life:
hear our prayers and thanksgivings
for all whom we remember this day;
fulfil in them the purpose of your love;
and bring us all, with them, to your eternal joy;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
For those who have died on active service
O God of truth and justice,
we hold before you those men and women
who have died in active service:
in Iraq, in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
As we honour their courage and cherish their memory,
may we put our faith in your future;
for you are the source of life and hope,
now and for ever.
Amen.

Lockdown
From Thursday the government have announced that the churches will close for Services but they may open for private prayer until December 2nd.Month of Prayer
The Archbishops, in consultation with the House of Bishops, decided that during lockdown we would have a month of prayer. This call would take the form of an invitation to every Christian and person of good will to pray at 6pm every day, beginning this Thursday 5 November for the period of this present lock-down. In order to stimulate this time of prayer, where it is possible, churches are encouraged to ring a single bell at 6pm. The Archbishops promised some resources in the form of different styles of written prayers with a particular thematic focus for prayer each day. The weblink to the resources is https://www.churchofengland.org/more/media-centre/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-churches/call-prayer-nation. In addition, please find here a direct link to a simple printable prayer booklet – Prayer Booklet.Giving

The November issue of our parish magazine is now online with lots inside. Download it by clicking on the green button here:
This month, as we deal with lockdown and all that this means, we remember and give thanks for those who served and sacrificed themselves in times of war. Our commemorations are mostly online this year but they are as important as ever.
We also look at ways of reducing our waste, hear from local MP Jeremy Hunt and welcome a new PCC. There’s Christmas shopping to do in our online art and craft fair, and the villages will be lit up by beacons on November 14, bringing hope and light.
Plus give to Project Wenceslas and help tackle fuel poverty and pop an extra pudding or two in your shopping order to give to the Foodbank. Oh, and get a cat…
Welcome to Our Toddler Service
Our first toddler service is online. Short and very sweet, it’s ideal for pre-schoolers.
Huge thanks to Michelle Chapman and Jacqui Searle for this and to our musicians Bob and Lesley Shatwell and Margaret Emberson.
Don’t forget the craft activity at the end.
