We’ll be holding our Easter Craft Market on Saturday, March 16th, at St Mark’s Church, Alma Lane, from 10am-2pm.
There will be loads of lovely stalls – from candles to clocks, jumpers to jewels, cards to crafty bits – along with refreshments, live music and an Easter Egg hunt!
If you are a crafter who wants to sell your work, please get in touch as we have a few spaces left. Tables are just £12.50 each. You can find out more here or email craft@badshotleaandhale.org or call us on 07842761919.
The March parish magazine is out now and you can download it below.
The last day of the month is Easter Sunday so the magazine contains all our Lent, Holy Week and Easter details, as well as information on other events such as the Farnham Poetry Competition Awards Evening (March 9th), Mothering Sunday (10th), the Easter Craft Market (16th), a collection for refugees (22nd), Unseen Artists (23rd-24th) and many more.
The Badshot Leader takes up the middle six pages with information about the village past and present, including what’s on and planning issues, plus a piece on ‘Badshot Lea’s forgotten hero, William Crumplin.
Elsewhere, there’s a report on Lesley and Alan’s farewell and a thank-you from them; thoughts from Lesley Shatwell, who has just retired; prayer; pictures of events which took place in the parish last month and lots more.
Thanks to a huge effort. a lot of generous people and extremely hard work by Bob Shatwell, St Mark’s has a new carpet (pictured above with members of the St Mark’s congregation).
The majority of the funds raised was from the Craft Market which runs at St Mark’s on the third Saturday of March, June, September and November (the next one is on 16th so come and see the carpet as well as all the crafts!). Since the market started in 2021, it has raised £3,852.50 from craft stalls and £2,005.57 from selling refreshments, in large part thanks to Jean Sanders, Chriss Green, Elaine Fell and the team, along with musicians Bob and Lesley Shatwell, Roger Sanders and friends who keep everyone entertained during the market.
Well done to everyone involved and a massive thank you! The carpet enhances the building and sets off the Kitty Milroy murals nicely.
The carpet replaces an aisle carpet which became a trip hazard and had to be taken up, and one in the nave in front of the altar which was threadbare and dirty. The new one not only looks hugely better but feels it too, so much so that one of the church’s regular hirers who runs music classes for pre-school children said: “It’s so comfortable to sit on we nearly fell asleep on it!”

Among the stalls will be Whimsy and Joyful selling plastic-free handmade knitted Alice bands from 100% wool; clocks created from CDs by DNWFoto; Linda’s Crafting Creations selling upcycled gifts; cards from Julie Owen; Knitty Nora’s handknits; and pretty bracelets from Charlotte Barnard.
Come and have a relaxing couple of hours. You could even shop early for Christmas!

The September issue of the parish magazine is out now and you can download it below.
It’s a bumper issue which looks forward to what is going on this autumn. We start with a quiet morning for Creationtide at St John’s on September 2nd when Craig Nobbs will be leading us in reflecting about our care for God’s earth (see page 13). We will look at generosity and gratitude on two Sundays – September 10th and 17th (page 22) – and this month we start a series on exploring prayer, beginning on 20th when we go into Farnham Park to encounter God in nature (also page 22). Then there is our September craft market at St Mark’s on September 16th (page 48); Apple Day and Harvest Festival on 24th (page 12); and the Harvest Supper at St George’s on 29th (page 16).
It’s not all just about what’s on – among the articles you will find ones on home groups, autism, diversity, ordinations, why we hire out our halls, dog training and more, plus we are delighted to have the Badshot Leader right at the heart of the magazine, with information on The Kiln, the Community Garden and Aldershot Model Car Club.
All this plus local businesses who do so much to support our magazine by placing advertisements in it. Please do use their services.
Messy Church returns this Sunday – July 9th – at 4pm at St Mark’s. This month we are exploring The Big Catch and taking a look at the computer game Guardians of Ancora.
Come along and enjoy craft, songs, games, stories, sandwiches and cakes!
Messy Church is a form of church for children and adults which involves creativity, celebration and hospitality. It typically includes a welcome, a long creative time to explore the biblical theme through getting messy; a short celebration time involving story, prayer, song, games and similar; and a sit-down meal together at tables. All elements are for people of all ages, adults and children.
Our Summer Craft Market will take place on Saturday, June 17th, at St Mark’s Church, Alma Lane, Upper Hale, from 10am-2pm. There will be gifts to buy – Father’s Day is the next day so get your gifts for Dad there – cards, jewellery, knitwear, toys, and live music and refreshments.
Among the stalls this month are Richmetal Jewellery which sells finely crafted silver and gold pieces; clocks created from CDs by DNWFoto; bird-inspired craft from The Crafty Bird; cards from Sue Froud; and lots of lovely knitting from Knitty Nora.
It’s free to enter and while you are there, you can also have a look at the wonderful Kitty Milroy murals, painted in the early 20th century and now recognised as key in the development of mural art.
There will also be live music from Saxooma, plus refreshments including homemade cake and rolls.
Our fabulous parish summer fete is back, this year on June 10th at St George’s, Badshot Lea, from 12-4pm.
There will be all sorts of stalls with things to buy, games to play, delicious food and drink, a craft market and a grand raffle. It’s a proper community fete with people from across the villages which make up our parishes taking part.
So please, put the date in your diary, and also, if you’d like to run a stall, help set up, clear up, generally get stuck in, let us know. Email Maxine Everitt to find out more.
Come and join us at St Mark’s Church on the second and fourth Friday of each month from 7-9pm for our ‘youth club for all ages’, aka Friday Night Games Night. The next ones are: April 14 and 28, May 12 and 26.
We have table tennis, pool, board games, jigsaws, art and craft, modelling, food, drinks and lots of chat and general socialising. It’s open to all ages and we range in age from children to 80+. Anyone of primary age and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
We are inclusive and welcome everyone. Please let us know if you have any particular needs or dietary requirements. Contact revd.stella@badshotleaandhale.org to find out more
