Bangers and a barbecue

Remember those school assembly hymns we all used to sing? Now’s your chance to sing them again at our Summer Barbecue and ‘Top Ten Assembly Bangers’ on Saturday, August 15th, 12 noon, at St George’s.

The idea is to vote for your favourite hymn you sang at school and we will sing the 10 which receive the most votes. Voting costs £1 a hymn and must be done by August 9th, either by filling in a form at the back of any of the three churches, or by emailing Kris Lawrence.

If you don’t want to vote, simply come along for a good sing-song.

We also need to know how many people are coming to the barbecue, so please let Kris know by that date. Tickets are £5 for an adult, £2.50 for a child (payment in advance, please). Let Kris know of any dietary requirements too.

The Parish Fete

The Parish Fete is back again, this year on Saturday, June 13th, at St George’s, 11am-3pm.

There are lots of stalls – tombolas, the raffle, games, jigsaws, toys, tea and cakes, the barbecue, the bar, craft, community stalls and much more – and a pet show, plus, new for this year, ‘Meet the Minibeasts’, and the ‘Pony Pals’ interactive experience between 11am and 1pm. There will be a maypole, entertainment, music and a children’s area.

Please do come and join us for a great fun day which also raises money for the parish.

Ascension Day

Ascension Day falls on Thursday, May 14th this year and, as is our custom, we will be celebrating with a barbecue at St George’s Church, followed by a communion service.

Ascension Day takes place 40 days after Easter and tells the story of Jesus ascending to heaven following his resurrection and appearances to his disciples. It is a linking moment between Easter and Pentecost because, just before he ascended, Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would come upon them (see Luke 24 v: 49-51 and Acts 1 v: 8-9).

Join us at St George’s at 6pm for the barbecue, followed by a short communion service at 7.30pm. Bring your own meat/vegetarian alternative and drinks. Some salad and bread will be provided. All ages welcome.
