A Moment of Reflection – Vigil for The Queen

Farnham will be holding A Moment of Reflection: a vigil for The Queen, on Sunday, 18th September, the evening before her funeral. The commemoration will take place in Gostrey Meadow, Farnham, GU9 7PT, with the lighting of candles from 7.30pm.

Please gather for the vigil at 7.45pm near to the bandstand. Both Cllr Alan Earwaker, the Mayor of Farnham, and Cllr John Ward, Mayor of Waverley, will speak and then there will be a minute’s silence which will be shared with communities across the UK. In Farnham, the minute’s silence with be signalled by a whistle, this will be piped by Farnham, Fleet and Aldershot Sea Cadets.

People can hold this minute’s silence anywhere, or come join together in Gostrey Meadow on Sunday evening; everybody is welcome.

There is a book of condolence in the Byworth Suite, Farnham Town Hall, South Street, Farnham which is available for people to sign until the end of the period of national mourning during office hours, which are Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm and Friday 9am to 4.30pm.

Loving Kindness – for when Mother’s Day is Complicated

Do you find Mothering Sunday tricky?

Mothering Sunday can be complicated for so many different reasons: perhaps you have lost your own mother, perhaps the relationship is broken, perhaps you feel you are hopeless at being a mother – there may be a hundred more reasons why Mothering Sunday is tricky.

Why not take some time and space to reflect, to sit quietly and know that God sees you as an individual, not “just a mother” or “just a child of a mother”.

On Sunday, March 27, at 9.30am at St Mark’s, Pamela Marsham will be leading a short, mindfulness based session to help you unwind and relax into God’s love for each and every one of us.

Prayer Stations

Prayer stations are prayer activities which are often set up in churches, but can be set up anywhere, including homes. The idea is to engage people in some form of prayer activity – reading, writing, listening, drawing, touching, reflecting and then responding to God’s voice.

Could you set up one at home, or in the garden, and video or photograph it and send it to us to go up online? Send it to Alan and we can put it up on the website and social media.

It can be something as simple as a candle and music – as in the video below – or a wonderful artistic creation, or something in between.

If you like to sit before God with music playing, try our reflection here. The music reflects a number of moods – quiet contemplation, excitement, passion, joy, peace – rather like prayer really!
