St George’s church has a traditional robed four part choir (SATB) that sings every Sunday at the 10am service to lead the worship. The choir sings a wide range of music from traditional settings, through Tiaze style music to modern music. The ages of members of the choir range from 6 to above 66!!
The Choir is a member of The Royal School of Church Music and follows its “Voice for Life” program which allows members to gain medals, and provides excellent tuition in all aspects of singing. Free vocal coaching on a one to one basis is also provided if desired.
The choir above all, apart from being good fun is really friendly, and would welcome any new members. Experience of singing in a choir is NOT required, and there are no auditions!- Simply come along on a Sunday at 9.30am and ask to speak to Frances our Parish organist, or see any member of the choir- and we will look after you! There is no obligation to join- just come along and give it a try.
Not only will you enjoy yourself, but you will quickly make new friends, get a great musical education, get to sing some great music, but it is also totally free of charge. All music is provided for you.
All members of the choir wear a cassock, surplice and ruff, which again are provided for you.
The choir is led by our Parish Organist, Frances Whewell.
St George’s is lucky to have a very well voiced two manual church organ as well as a Clavinova.
